Our Catechism programme starts with Catechism Class at 4:15 am on Saturdays, followed immediately by mass from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Attendance at our programme includes attending our Catechism Mass and classes. The Catechism Mass is an integral part of our Catechism Programme. Attendance of both Mass and classes is compulsory.
Absenteeism
The Vicariate of Southern Arabia has strict guidelines with regards to attendance at catechism, particularly for sacrament classes (Grades 3, 4, 8 and Special Sacrament). Absences in excess of 4 lessons in the catechetical year could jeopardise your child's eligibility to receive their sacrament. In the event that your child will not be attending catechism on any given Saturday, inform us using our absence notification page on this website (click here), before classes on Saturday.
Parent drop-off and pick-up
Please do not ask your child(ren) to meet you outside the church after dismissal - i.e. at 6:30 pm. This presents a huge safety issue. Especially as winter sets in and it gets darker sooner. One parent should be on the church premises during Catechism classes at all times. If your child is below 9, the catechists await your arrival inside the main church, so they can log the child out of mass. If the child is above 9, we do not hold back the children. However, we request that parents still collect children from within the parish premises, rather than the open car park.
Parent's Coffee
Our Teen Ministry is planning to host social evenings after mass to raise funds for the catechism community requirements, such as the Nativity play production or an outing for the children. Watch out for our monthly emails which will advise you closer to time.
For security reasons, parents and guardians are not allowed to wait in the class room corridors during class time.
