Our Catechism Programme
Our Saturday Catechism Group provides faith formation for children aged 5 to 14 years old or older. Our mission is to assist parents in developing the Catholic Faith of their children.
The Catholic Church has always taught that the task of educating children is the natural right and responsibility of parents. The rite of Baptism, for example, makes specific reference to this truth when the priest says to the parents, "You have asked to have your child baptised. In doing so you are accepting the responsibility of training them in the practice of the faith. It will be your duty to bring them up to keep God's commandments as Christ taught us, by loving God and our neighbour. Do you clearly understand what you are undertaking?" Our Catechism Programme is designed to help you carry out that "Yes" in answer to this question asked at your child's Baptism.
Parents are also responsible for ensuring an active sacramental life and daily Gospel living for their children. An active sacramental life includes at least, attending weekly Mass and regular Reconciliation. The Celebration of the Eucharist is central to our faith. As individuals and as a Parish Catechism Community, we need to be committed to bringing our children to Catechism Mass and classes each week and on Holy Days of Obligation - at a minimum.
